What is Slow Fashion?

In a previous post I discussed Fast Fashion. Now let's talk about it's opposite, Slow Fashion.

According to the Sustainable Fashion Forum,  it consists of:

"Multiple approaches to ethically consuming fashion such as buying second hand, vintage or thrifting, buying ethically made and/or locally made garments, buying fewer high-quality items, upcycling, DIYing fashion and rejecting mass-produced fast fashion."

As much as Fast Fashion is mainly a business model, Slow Fashion is truly a mindset and a movement. What if you can't afford higher priced quality items and do not like the idea of wearing clothes worn by other people? You can buy the best quality you can afford, and take care of it for as long as possible.

Some people cannot afford to pay higher prices for clothes and out of necessity purchase from companies considered to be Fast Fashion retailers. There are others, namely social media influencers, that purchase and promote retailers such as Shein or YEStyle, etc., even though they can afford to purchase better quality items. These retailers afford them the ability to be trendy and fashionable, and they usually only wear the items once. But what if such influencers actually re-wore the items they promoted? Wouldn't that show how much they actually liked these items?

It is time, as discussed in my previous post, to normalize re-wearing our clothes on social media in order to combat the Fast Fashion concept and mindset promoted on such platforms as Instagram and TikTok, etc. I have been given the opportunity to be such an ambassador for fashion brands on Instagram, and I plan to re-wear these items in my posts to do just that...normalize re-wearing items on social media no matter where I purchase my pieces.

Let's wear, re-wear and enjoy our clothes and make Slow Fashion the new normal, in real life as well as on social media!

Cheers!!
