No-Buy 2023: January Update


 In 2022 I decided to go on a No-Buy for all of 2023 for makeup, clothes, jewelry and skincare.

For clothing and skincare, it is a replacements only no-buy (RONB) and for makeup and jewelry, it is an absolute no-buy.

As we have been planning to get our closets redesigned by California Closets this year, it became clear to me that I have wayyyyyy too many garments of clothing and pieces of jewelry. I already knew I had way too much makeup, but because it took up less space it didn't occur to me to worry about it...until now. 

In past declutters, I rashly gave away a lot of clothes and makeup which triggered me to accumulate even more...so this time when I declutter, I will do it slowly and make sure I will not miss what I am decluttering. And at the same time, I decided to not purchase any makeup or jewelry this year and only buy replacements for clothing (because white things...and underwear) and skincare.

So far I have done well in January. I have not purchased anything that is off limits. It is my first month and so I am Gung Ho, as they say.  As per the image above, I track each day I don't break my no-buy with an emoji on my calendar app. I screenshot the month and then pick an emoji that fits that month. 

I have not been tempted to buy anything this past month, but I have been intrigued by some new makeup releases. So far being on a no-buy has saved me from desiring anything. I just tell myself "not right now" rather than a hard no, and it has been working well. Not to say that I haven't researched where to buy something for when I can purchase makeup again, but I remind myself that I will be able to purchase makeup in the near future...be it next year or the following year. 

I am not sure how long I will be on an absolute no-buy for makeup and jewelry. I may go on a specific no-buy for certain items next year if I can get through enough products during my panning projects. For now I am focused on getting my numbers down through use and slow and deliberate decluttering.

Self Care is Good for the Soul

I choose Sundays as my day to indulge in some beauty self care. I take a nice relaxing bath, I put on a face mask...sometimes a sheet mask, but most of the time it is some kind of mask you spread on your face manually.  The latest one I tried was this Life Brand Revitalizing Cucumber and Witch Hazel Peel-off mask. It was goopy and spread over the face nicely. It's a clear gel-type mask so you it's hard to tell in the picture below that I have anything on my face, other than it looking wet. I let it dry while I relaxed in the tub.  Once I could feel it was dry, I peeled it off. It left my face soft and glowing, but I wouldn't say it felt overly hydrating or plumped. Overall, it was nice mask to try and not overly expensive either, about $3 CAD at Shopper's Drug Mart. If you can get them on sale for 50% off, stock up on a few different kinds! After my mask, I washed my hair, shaved and washed up. That is how I like to relax each Sunday. What is your self care routine?

Versace Yellow Diamond Perfume Mini

This is a mini bottle of Versace Yellow Diamond perfume. I purchased 3 mini Versace fragrances from Sephora and this is the first one I have tried.  Top notes of Pear Sorbet and Lemon; Middle notes of Mimosa and Orange Blossom; Bottom note of Musk. It is a fresh and lovely fragrance that makes me feel  both pampered and sophisticated.  Because it is a mini bottle, I wanted to mix it with these essential oils, with an ounce of alcohol, to accentuate the orange and lemon notes of the fragrance.  The carrier oil is Jojoba with a dash of Orange and Lemongrass essential oils. The alcohol acts as a filler as well as a thinning agent to make this beautiful scent go a little bit further!!  I probably will not purchase this fragrance, even though I really like it, because I have many others to get through, and many others I would like to try in the future.  Also, a 3 oz bottle retails for $95 CAD from the  Chic Parfums website. I Got My Colours Done!!

For my birthday this past year I asked my husband to get me a colour consultation with a lady I have followed on YouTube for over four years.  Image courtesy of @useless_dk on Instagram Her name is Signe Hansen of www.uselesswardrobe.dk   and she is a certified stylist and colour consultant. Because I had already been following and corresponding with her in the past, I wanted to support her and get my colour consultation with her. I did have to do it virtually over Zoom because she lives in Denmark! You are probably familiar with "Colour Me Beautiful" colour draping services. However, it has really evolved over the years. I first heard about it in the 1980's when it used to divide each of us into different colour seasons based on our skin tone, hair and eye colour.
