My Fall 2022 Capsule Wardrobe & 30 Wears Challenge

Image
I am doing a 30 wears challenge where I wear items from my Fall 2022 Capsule Wardrobe 30 times before I decide whether to keep, pass along or toss each item. Now, in order for me to actually toss an item, it has to be beyond redemption...meaning there is no way to up-cycle the item into a new item. Without further ado, let's see what is in my Fall Capsule Wardrobe shall we? It consists of 20 items not including jewelry or scarves. However I do show them so you can see how I am adding some flair to my outfits. Tops include:  White button-down shirt from Shezia Maroon and Leopard pocketed T-shirt from Shein Black rib-knit tank top from Frank & Oak Sequinned Calvin Klein sleeveless shell bought secondhand from Tipsy Palm, a local consignment store. Black and White T-shirts purchased at Dollarama Bottoms include: Trouser-cut, wide-legged Jeans from Banana republic Leopard Leggings from So Cozy Black Trousers from Ricki's  Black Jeggings from Old Navy Black Leggings from Costco...

Selfcare: Taking Care of My Feet

Image
I was inspired by my recent self care post to do a self care series where I share what I do, and use, to care for different parts of my body. I thought I would literally start at the bottom. I am notorious for not wearing socks in my foot ware, except for my gym shoes, and my heels, the balls of my feet and my big toes bare the brunt of it. I often get dry scaly heels and cracks in my skin in the balls of my feet and toes which can be quite deep and sore. I know I should take better care of my feet and plan to do so once I can renew them to their former soft skinned selves. Here are pictures of my poor feet before:   First I filed my feet with a Cala foot paddle from Shop Miss A, then I took my Micro Pedi foot sander to finely file my dry skin. The final step was to add an ointment to soften my skin and put on some socks so the ointment would stay where it was applied. The ointment I used is an old one from Avon: I am not even sure if this line still exists but I am sure they stil...

How to Mix Sample Perfume with Essential Oils to Create A Fragrance That is Perfectly You!!

Image
I have a lot of tiny vials of sample perfumes. Personally I do not like using them in the dab-on format. I prefer the samples that have either a roller ball or spray mechanism. So what do I do with all of these samples? I don't want to waste them, so I decided to get some essential oils from Shop Miss A, for about a dollar each, to mix with the sample scents to bring out the notes I want to enhance. For example, I have a sample of Atelier Cologne in Oud Saphir:    The printing on the tiny vial is so small, and unfortunately I can't make it any sharper.  According to Fragrantica.com, the top notes are Pink Pepper, Ambrette (Musk Mallow) and Bergamot. The middle notes are Suede, Birch and Jasmine. Finally the base notes are Birch, Agarwood (Oud) and Vanilla.  The notes I want to accentuate are the woody, floral and citrus notes. Along with Alcohol, I will mix Jojoba oil as a carrier oil, Gardenia, Lemongrass, Bergamot, and Cedarwood oils:   Gardenia will bring out...

One Jacket - 4 Looks: Summer

Image
We are now into the summer season and this jacket is good for those cooler summer days: "The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style" by Kim France and Andrea Linett shares many iconic style aesthetics.  The above image is from the chapter on Euro Chic Style, page 27 which illustrates four seasonal ways to wear a Chanel Tweed Jacket. I don't have the Chanel jacket but I do have my white blazer (above image). This is the Summer option. Below is my take on the look: The Blazer is from Ricki's, the skirt and floral top are both from Ardene, and the mules are from Nisolo. All are from my closet and therefore, no longer available. So far this is my favourite outfit out of the three I have shared so far ( Winter / Spring ). Which one is your favourite?

Our Okanagan Vacation

Image
At the end of July to early mid-August, we travelled to Kelowna to see family and get some sun and relaxation. One of the places in Kelowna we like to go to is Cedar Creek Dog Beach because dogs are allowed there and the water is actually clearer and nicer than at the City Park Hot Sands Beach. Here are some pics from our beach day: We took a day or two to go shopping for Hubby's mom and our trip up to Dee Lake, 40 minutes east of Lake Country. We stayed in a cabin up at Dee Lake and had a couple of friends join us Saturday night.  The neighbour in the cabin beside us brought his guitar over and gave us an impromptu concert!! Turns out he is a professional musician and has a band called the Zamboni Brothers that plays at different events around the Okanagan.  We were celebrating Our friend's birthdays and our anniversary that night, and Hubby brought sparklers which we lit inside the cabin, as well as the wood stove because there was a fire ban due to a fire near Kerameo...

Empty Review: OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Intense Moisture Mask

Image
What can I say about this product...oh I know, I LOVED IT!! It made my hair feel so soft and nourished after using this mask. I plan to repurchase it when my hair gets longer (my hair is currently short and growing out). The scent is not strong and overwhelming like some can be. My only complaint is that it is in a tub and not a tube where it can be squeezed out instead of having to dip your fingers in to scoop it out.  I know, first world problems, but when you have press-on nails, your don't really want to get it under them. If you know, you know! I do have a couple other conditioners that I could use as hair masks too so I want to use them up before I repurchase another tub. I hope I can still find it...I purchased it at Dollarama for $4 CAD. Do you have a favourite hair mask?

Self Care is Good for the Soul

Image
I choose Sundays as my day to indulge in some beauty self care. I take a nice relaxing bath, I put on a face mask...sometimes a sheet mask, but most of the time it is some kind of mask you spread on your face manually.  The latest one I tried was this Life Brand Revitalizing Cucumber and Witch Hazel Peel-off mask. It was goopy and spread over the face nicely. It's a clear gel-type mask so you it's hard to tell in the picture below that I have anything on my face, other than it looking wet. I let it dry while I relaxed in the tub.  Once I could feel it was dry, I peeled it off. It left my face soft and glowing, but I wouldn't say it felt overly hydrating or plumped. Overall, it was nice mask to try and not overly expensive either, about $3 CAD at Shopper's Drug Mart. If you can get them on sale for 50% off, stock up on a few different kinds! After my mask, I washed my hair, shaved and washed up. That is how I like to relax each Sunday. What is your self care routine?
