Skulls, Acorns, and Pumpkins...Oh My!

Hygge is a Danish term for adding a "quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being" (Oxford Dictionary). Mostly this is achieved through decorative expression which creates a feeling of welcome and hospitality, and most of all, comfort.

Expressing your personality through decor, from everyday to special occasions such as holidays, makes not only you feel comfortable in your home, but others see a part of you in your environment.

This first picture is of the shelves in our Powder Room above the toilet. It's fun to add a little holiday flare to unexpected areas of the condo. All of the Glitter pumpkins and the skull were purchased at Dollarama, so you definitely do not have to spend a lot of money when decorating your space.

This is a picture of our coffee table. The candle holder stand was purchased from a homewares company that direct sales items to people through the party circuit, similar to Partylite; The candle jar is from Bath & Body Works, which I cleaned out after the candle was burned down. The candle itself is from Ikea and the acorns, pine cones and glitter pumpkins are from Dollarama.

A coffee table is a perfect place to add some personality to your home. The candle light creates a cozy ambience and a hygge element to the room.

This is a glass vase from Ikea filled with pine cones, bobbles and pine cone shaped lights from Dollarama; The tea light holders are from Shop Miss A. This arrangement is on my buffet table under our kitchen bar counter.

Pretty decor and some added lighting also creates a cozy feeling especially when, other than candles, it is the only light in the room. When the sky gets dark early in the Autumn and Winter, creating a comfortable ambience with special lights and candles brings a sense of calm to the space.

You can add special touches to any area of your home to not only express yourself, but also make your home feel like a nice warm hug.

Do you hygge?
